    Handstand Command 3rd Anniversary

On May 16th, 2003 at the Milky Way in JP, Handstand Command pillars The Anchormen, The Operators, and Asian Babe Alert--along with guests The Reaganauts ('80s hardcore tribute band with members of Tizzy!) and a little deejaying help from Geisslah of Scrapple--convened to ring in the new year of HC (#3 chronologically, but hierarchically, every year is #1 for us). There was cake, pizza, bowling, dancin...It was also The Anchormen's release party for their third album, Nation of Interns.

Choppin Block Residency Then June 2003, we had a month-long residency at the Choppin' Block, to round out the celebration. The Anchormen, The Operators, Sinkcharmer, Asian Babe Alert, and Plunge into Death made appearances, plus specialty guests: Origami, The In Out, Choo Choo la Rouge, Big Digits, Pee Wee Fist, Mittens, Spoilsport, Travers, Cathy Cathodic, and The Mary Reillys. There are pictures and video of most of the performances.

    Arrrrrghh!

    Handstand Command First Anniversary
    • The Anchormen threw their first all-star karaoke show, with members of all the HC bands singing Anchormen songs.
    • The Operators were on the first episode of Cafe SCAT (music show on Somerville Community Access TV).
    • Sinkcharmer embarked on a mini-east coast tour.
    • The Tardy was playing the Lizard Lounge with Mark Robinson, Mary Timony, and Seana Carmody.
    • Scrapple recorded The Scrapple Home Companion, their radio drama, live on WMFO.
    Handstand Command: The Beginning
    • The Anchormen had just recorded their second album, Punk Rock Is Awesome (the original title was Stephanie Calling).
    • The Operators had their first real show at The Kirkland; their hero Tara from Mr. Airplane Man happened to drop in and catch the set.
    • Sinkcharmer finished the last solo 4-track album before becoming a full band, Breaking the Slide Rule.
    • Jef Czekaj released his last solo-4-track album before forming The Tardy with Steph, Songs about You and Your Boyfriend.
    • Scrapple started work on a second album and a 12" dance remix.

    Handstand Command Second Anniversary
May 2002 we did a month-long Abbey Lounge residency! It was great fun. The Anchormen, The Operators, Sinkcharmer, The Tardy, Scrapple, and Asian Babe Alert all played of course, with special guests Mark Robinson, Seana Carmody, The Mary Reillys, The Count Me Outs, Mr. Airplane Man, Mac Dare, Swizzle, The In Out, Twink, Naughty Shirley, Cathy Cathodic, The Pee Wee Fist, Tizzy, and Palomar. There was also a record release party for The Operators's first album, Citizens Band. Phew! There are lots of pictures and stuff.
